Jefferson County Radio Amateur Club, Inc.

November 1, 2004 - Regular Monthly Meeting

The meeting was called to order at 7:33 PM by president, Steve Gunn, WA2VQD.  Members present were WA2VQD, N2YRS, WB2TUP, KB2UQV, KC2HRU, KC2CUJ, KB2TYX, WD9DVM, KC2GWT, WB2PKO, and KC2GCT.

The flag salute was given.

The October 4th minutes were read by Pete Leslie, N2YRS.  Motion to accept was made by Jeannie, KC2HRU, and seconded by Joe, WB2TUP.  The motion was carried.

The treasurer’s report was read by Mal, KC2CUJ.   Motion to accept was made by Pete, N2YRS, and seconded by Pat, KC2GCT.  The motion was carried.

Ric, NB2E, was absent and no activities report was given.

Old Business: (none)

New Business: Our neighbor stopped by and spoke with Steve about a concern.  He asked that we not burn plastic in our burning barrel.  The winds carry it directly toward his home and the plume of poisonous gases and smoke may pose health risks for his family, especially his infant child.

Building Security:  Steve, WA2VQD, found that the building was not secured properly when used last by someone.  The front storm door had not been closed properly and the wind did some minor damage to the door spring and closure unit again.  It was also noted that someone had not closed the back door.  The double doors were blown open during the recent high winds.  The neighbor came over and closed them and placed a cinder block against them to keep them closed.  It was also noted that every light bulb, with the exception of one near the back door had been loosened.  Please, if you’re going to use the building, make certain that you properly secure things and lock all doors.

Cliff, KB2UQV, suggested that we only use keys instead of the code locking system on the main door.  He also thought a sign-in sheet could be used to keep track of the building’s use.  Discussion followed with different opinions being expressed.  No decisions were made.

Denver, WD9DVM, will take the county radios back that someone was using at the clubhouse.

The status of the club’s repeater was discussed.  The software has been ordered to program the controller.  The settings had been lost during one of this summer’s major lightning storms.  It is hoped, that the height of the antenna can also be raised and also an amplifier added sometime in the future.

Steve, WA2VQD, reminded the members present that the next meeting would be May 2, 2005.  It was also noted that the spring dinner at Tomacy’s will be Saturday, May 21, 2005.  The same buffet menu will be offered as we had for the October dinner.  The price will again be $11.95 per person.

Motion to adjourn was made by Paul, KC2GWT, and seconded by Jeannie, KC2HRU.  Motion was carried and the meeting adjourned at 8:00 P.M.

Respectfully submitted,

Pete Leslie, N2YRS
